Gauis Kibbe A.D. 1765-1821 |

Gauis Kibbe was born in Endfield Connecticut in August 1765. Gauis was the sixth child of Isaac and Margret. He first married Mary(Polly) Pease at Enfield who bore him nine children.
In 1797 he moved his family to Columbia in that same county. They later moved to Bloonfield Vermont where Polly Pease Kibbe died on May 11, 1802. On March 17 1803, at Chesterfield Mass. Gauis married his second wife Nancy Kidd and in 1814 they moved to
Buffalo New York. Having secured a grant of land in Attakapus,Louisiana, Gauis induced his large family to accompany him on an epic journey to Louisiana by river barge. The trip began in 1819. (See details of the trip under "William Kibbe".) Gauis and Nancy had three children which gave Gauis a total of twelve childern. Gauis died within weeks of arriving at Attakapus, Louisiana on July 21, 1821.
